The Cliq handsets have traditionally been debuted through T-Mobile, so it’s not surprising that Motorola Mobility has announced the launch of Cliq 2 through T-Mobile USA. This Android 2.2 smartphone is 3G–capable, though it is expected to offer faster speeds over the carrier’s 4G network at no additional cost. It claims to pack business, social and entertainment abilities into a curvy figure touched off by a keypad design almost resembling a sort of snakeskin print.
Embedding a 1GHz processor, the Cliq 2 flaunts a 3.7” edge-to-edge touchscreen and a slide-out QWERTY keypad. It renders access to the Android Market, Blockbuster On Demand and a pre-installed Amazon Kindle app. A Print to Retail facility lets users make copies of photos captured through the device with ease. The entertainment features don’t stop at that; the phone is also DLNA-enabled to allow for sharing of content it hoards on a larger screen.
“Smartphone users are constantly looking for a device that suits all of their needs, whether they’re in the office or at home with their families. Cliq 2 is what these consumers are looking for, delivering on what it means to truly stay connected on their terms,” cited Alain Mutricy, senior vice president, portfolio and device product management, Motorola Mobility. “With business-ready features and robust entertainment options, Cliq 2 users will be able to make the most of every moment.”
The rather attractive keypad boasts of reduced distance between the keys that are also comfortably large to enable speedy text entry. This Cliq member proffers Wi-Fi calling so that owners can make calls over work or home wireless networks. Three sets of customizable homescreens are provided for faster access to applications, shortcuts and widgets.
“We are excited to build upon the success of the original Cliq, bringing the powerful combination of Android and social connectivity to our customers. With the addition of new business-ready features, the Motorola Cliq 2 offers peace of mind with the ability to balance home and work life,” commented Paul Cole, vice president of product management at T-Mobile USA.
With the Cliq 2, LinkedIn connections can be imported into the contact list and a corporate directory allows users to stay connected with colleagues. QuickOffice may be employed in order to remotely view and edit documents right on the handset. The 3G mobile hotspot-capable gizmo’s calendar capabilities include the option to propose new meeting times, reply and reply-all to groups, forward meeting notices and verify meeting participant availability.
The Cliq 2 is coming to the U.S. on January 19 through T-Mobile online and retail stores as also select dealers. It will be extended in a shade of titanium with a smoke gray finish. The device delivers security features like remote locate and SD card wipe, with additional security functions like device and SD card encryption slated for release early this year.
