Morada Bay Beach Cafe

This weekend I had one of those moments where I thought, hhmmm, this part of living in Florida isn't so bad. I know, I said it! Friday night Beau and I drove to the Keys for the Seven Mile Bridge Run early Saturday morning. I was so happy that the Beau finished his first race and we finished in pretty good time in the sunshine! The race ended in a little park where I took off my running shoes and walked in the ocean, who can complain.

Afterwards we explored a little bit of the islands driving through neighborhoods, laying on the quiet beach and stopped at Morada Bay Beach Cafe that had been highly recommended to me. Pretty much, I am in love. I walked outside and the first thing I said was, "I want to have a party here". That is usually how my mind works. The restaurant is vibrant and bright and looks right out onto the water. Drinking a margarita here in the afternoon made me forget about my week ahead and pretty much anything else going on!

I would love to string lights above the whole area and have a great event on the sand. Guests could even arrive by boat, watch the sunset and dance the night away under the stars. The colored mismatched chairs would provide such a fun decor element! Fish tacos, a margarita, Beau, the sun, the Keys.....highly recommended. When can I go back?

Sunny Days Ahead

A few of my best girlfriends from college are coming to visit me in Florida this weekend and I am BEYOND excited for the visit! We have a lot to celebrate: an engagement, a baby on the way and a way too late 30th birthday celebration! I can't stop thinking of my weekend ahead!

Of course when I heard they were coming I started envisioning a little backyard by the pool breakfast and bright and cheerful images started dancing through my head.

Floating Flamingos ~ oh yes, I received these as a gift, aren't they fun! A few of these in the pool with some cold beverages throughout the day and we might not leave the house.

~

Yellow Flowers - It is SPRING! Bright and cheery flowers have been decorating beau's and my house this week and will be cluttered around the house to bring my North East girls some sunshine.

~

Blue Acrylic Glasses and Yellow Linen - Like the combination? Breakfast table decor! I just got the glasses from Amazon and the chevron yellow linen from Spoonflower.

~

Florida Print - Three visitors coming from the snowy north, get excited! How cute is this print from Parada Creations on Etsy.

~

Can't wait for some girl time with some splashes of Florida Sunshine.

Christmas on Las Olas

Tomorrow night I am heading downtown Fort Lauderdale to a little holiday cheer filled event, "Christmas on Las Olas". Las Olas boulevard is only a few minutes from our house and is lined with cute shops and nice restaurants. Being that this is my first year away from chilly winter weather I am REALLY looking forward to the night to get me in the Holiday Spirit! Even though the street is lined with Palm Trees, tomorrow they will be covered with Christmas Lights and maybe we will be drinking hot chocolate.

They actually bring in snow machines, in the past Starbucks had a Snow Mountain, there is an ice skating rink, choirs singing carols, Santa is around (good I need to give him my list!). I can't wait! If you are in the area stop by from 5pm to 10pm on Las Olas Boulevard.

Wynwood Art District - 2nd Saturday

This weekend Beau and I went to Miami for a night out in the Art District. The second Saturday of every month all of the galleries in the Wynwood Art District stay open until 10pm. Some of the galleries offer wine, snacks and sweets. It was nice to be out and about looking at art and browsing through stores with my beau.

I loved watching through the window as the artist sketched this dancer.
Beau and browsed through this outdoor furniture store. AMAZING items, maybe some day we will be able to afford the $4,000.00 outside lounge chair that I fell in love with. Or how about this amazing outdoor, bath, gorgeous. My oh my.
Isn't this art sculpture of paint, brushes and models neat?
I liked these pretty paintings, they kind of reminded me of pretty flowers.
I had to stop in this store and check out these fun dog lamps. If I can't get a real dog maybe I can get a lamp?
It might have been wine in a plastic cup but it was fun to walk around the streets drinking vino and looking through stores and galleries.
Loved the yellow painting behind the bar. I could put that in my living room for sure.

I'm looking forward to heading back in a few months. There are some great stores there, Jonathon Adler, Waterworks, Marimekko....Christian Louboutin..... maybe some day I can get my own shoe art:)

dreaming of Fall...clothes

I think that one of the hardest changes for me moving to Florida has been accepting the weather. The sunshine is beautiful and I know in January I will love it when I watch the news and see all of the snow up North. However, not having the leaves change colors and the air get chilly has made me sad. I absolutely LOVE the Fall season, I love everything about it! I realized recently why I was SO bored of my wardrobe, because I have been wearing the same clothes since May and do not see a reason to change out the closet to Fall clothes. Why? Well, it is still 85 degrees in Florida!
I put together a little outfit I would love to wear if I was walking around the city on a nice Fall day, Pumpkin Spice Latte in hand. I would add some nice black tights and some chunky jewelry and stroll around the leave lined sidewalks. It is different here, we have palm leaves on the ground.
The other day I broke down and pulled on some black tights (one of my favorite items of clothing! thick black tights). I think I was a little hot with the sun shining on me, but I do not care. I baked some pumpkin cookies today and lit my autumn spice candle. It smells like Fall in my house, now if there was only a reason to wear a heavy jacket and a scarf!

Fort Lauderdale Friday

I have been eager to find a cute local wine bar that reminded me of my old places in DC. Beau and I have been driving by 7th Street Wine bar for months now. It is right up the street from us and I keep saying we need to try it! It doesn't look so great from the street, dark windows, not great signage, neon signs, however entering from the back you find a cute wine shop and bar.

The wine shop/bar has multiple deals throughout the week. We went on Thursday night for "Ladies Night" and I will for sure be going back! Thursday night, ladies get buy one get one free glasses of wine, I love a good deal.

The decor is not too chic, lots of wine bottle candle holders but hey, I can't complain. There is a wine shop then the bar portion with a few high top tables and a private wine tasting room. They have a small menu of bites you can enjoy with your vino. Perfect!

I love the wine selection, next time I must try out the Bitch wine I keep reading about. The part I loved about the wine bar is their automated wine dispensers. You buy a wine card that allows you to pour your own wines and taste expensive bottles of wine at your own. On Thursdays you get double the money! I got $50 worth of wine for $25, just what I needed was more wine. Perfect.

Ass Kisser Wine. Funny.

The Wine Dispensers are so fun. Now with my wine card I met get in trouble just "tasting" alllll night long. Oh well, it may not be my old Bardeo in Cleveland Park but I'm glad I found a little neighborhood bar for us.

Next time you are in Fort Lauderdale check it out.

Florida Party

This weekend I feel like we finally started getting the house get together and I am dreaming of having a housewarming party. A little late since we have been here for months, but we do not know many people and there are still boxes laying around, so what is the rush?

I have been browsing the Lilly site (more to come on Lilly Pulitzer later this week) and have realized that wow, they have come along away from the very Palm Beach printed skirts. How cute would this yellow dress, bright heels, bright clutch and a glass of rose in hand be to wear in the back yard by the pool? Ooo, dreaming. I hope you can all come visit!

living with a boy

Moving to Florida was a big step. few years I have lived on my own in a very girly apartment in DC. My kitchen had pictures of cupcakes and a hot pink candelabra in it. My bedroom had a pink wall with a framed picture of the fabulous old movie with Doris Day, Pillow Talk. I had framed photos of girlfriends and family all over the place. Handbags, shoes and well....stuff took over my apartment. My bathtub was line with girly products that I would use, well once and awhile. I had a few of my collectible Barbies in my bedroom.
Well I guess what I am going towards is wow, life has changed.

I am lucky to have a boyfriend who is totally fine with me hanging up what I want and decorating the house how I wish. However, I still have this thought in my head that I can not go around decorating the place pink all over with a little sparkle here and there and pictures of Paris all over. Last week I almost finished the guest room and was pretty happy. I feel like it is a great compromise of boy & girl. Thoughts?

My side of the bedroom. My nightstand makes me feel like its home now. Beau's side, well I think he has a water glass and a light. Hey, its a start:)

I think I am going to bring this picture to work. I LOVE IT. However, is this OK for me to hang in our small house? I don't know. Where would I place it? The whole thing is about being a girl.
And all of my cupcake prints. What to do with these????
So here is the new bedroom! I am LOVING my black wall. Every night I say I am going to sleep in here and try out the new room. Maybe tonight? I love it.

There is so much more to do but it is coming along! I will keep you posted on the house changes. As everybody says, one day at a time!

Big Changes

I received this small journal as a gift a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. It has been sitting on my desk and I have found myself staring at it during the middle of the day. Most of you know that I have been considering the option of moving for quite some time. I was never sure when the right time was to go but these past few weeks I have really started to feel like it was totally the right time.
I gave my notice on Friday to my boss and will be leaving Washington DC on Friday, May 7th! It is a little scary but also so exciting. After being with same company for 7 years, the company I interned with in college, it was a crazy thing to give my notice and walk away. However, it felt so good and I feel like a weight has been lifted from
my shoulders in a way.

I found this picture of me from when I just started my job 3 years ago. I saw the building come together as a great site for events from a construction site. It has been a great experience,
but I am ready for what is next!
I'll be packing up my desk soon and heading to Florida with beau.
I am sure I will have lots to write on the way!

spring cleaning, packing, moving

I have so much stuff to get done in the next 45 days my mind is just spinning thinking of it. A few weeks ago I cleaned out one of the many closets, bins and boxes of stuff I have to pack up. Wish me luck over the next few weeks as I clean out and get rid of items I have been carrying around since freshman year of college. I think it is time to get rid of theme party outfits. I guess I should accept that 80's night is not going to happen every Tuesday night:)
{Who needs this many winter coats and reusable shopping bags?...me}
{I do not think this stuff will be moving with me. Oh yes, the Jim Beam, that's for my Dad when he visits, Manhattans, not for me.}

{Ooooo, this is my goal on Sunday night, organized or packed boxes!}

what to wear in florida?

I have an interview on Monday close to Miami.....what do I wear? My "moving" budget does not allow me to go out and splurge and buy something new. It's hot and I AM NOT wearing a suit. I feel like the job I am looking at would not want a person in a buttoned up business suit.

Remember the episode in Season Four where Carrie wore the awesome Vivienne Westwood suit, well I do! Oh she looked AMAZING when she walked into Vogue. Well, I may not be wearing designer but JCrew and Banana will have to impress;)

So what do you think...my Jcrew ruffle blouse, Banana cuffed pants, Cole Haan peep toe shoes (yes, I have a nicely polished pedicure) and a patent leather bag? Well, it will have to do! I'll update you on Tuesday!

Back to Reality

Hi Urban Flip Flop Readers! Sorry I took a vacation from Twittering, Facebooking and Blogging last week while on vacation. I had a GREAT time away! So relaxing and fun. I am back to DC and back to working and searching for my decision of when to move to Florida. It was sad to leave on Monday morning. After 2 years of flights back an forth from DC to FL, I'm really ready this time! I am really hoping my next trip down to Florida to see beau is to stay!

Above was how I spent the majority of the week, reading by the beach, sipping cocktails in the sun and wearing my new sun hat;) I'll post more later but I couldn't help but say Bonjour to everybody!!!! Hope the start of your week is going well.

A Beer and a Burger

Today Beau is opening the doors to his new location in Plantation, FL. If you live in the Southern Florida area, stop by today! Duffy's will have a band, lots of deals and well...beau will be there;) Me, well thinking of the opening made me crave a yummy summer brew and a burger. Now don't get me wrong, they sell much more then burgers. However, isn't there something about a hot summer day that makes you want to grill outside and drink an ice cold beer. Ok, well I do! I wish I had a backyard where I could invite everybody over and maybe make the mini burgers that are so cutely displayed above.
