redecorating

I saw this post a few weeks on Elements of Style Blog. Blogger Erin is fabulously talented. I LOVE the rooms she designs and have been following her for quite some time now. It is RARE that I do not like a thing she does, she is kind of.....well..fabulous!

Last week as I was sitting at the dining room table looking at my piles of stuff and dreaming of the day that beau's and my house is put together, I fell upon this recent posts of Erin. How pretty, sweet and glam is this project Erin is working on going to be? I dream of pink
chairs! Oooooo, it is nice to dream. I can not wait to see the finished project. Maybe it will inspire me to put all of my stuff away:) Cohabition is not easy. I want pink chairs, white furniture, zebra rugs and he wants dark woods and old museum posters. I know we will come to happy medium, it will only take time.

Happy Birthday Urban Flip Flops!

I started my blog last week... one year ago! It has been one year since I started posting on Urban Flip Flops and wow, what a year it has been!!! I started blogging about my move to be with my beau. I thought blogging would be a fun way to write about things in the big city and things by the beach. I wrote about work, Washington DC, girlfriends, bars, Florida, parties, cocktails, clothes, movies, my big move. For awhile I thought, well maybe its not time to move and started thinking about other options, and then come Spring and I decided..... here I go! Why wait?

Here I am now in sunny Fort Lauderdale. Living with beau, I started working at a new job, there HAVE been a lot of flip flops along the way! I look forward to sharing more and moving to a public site! I feel like opening my blog will be a great way for my friends to share my ideas with their friends. Enjoy:)

Summer Reading

I have realized that since I am not taking public transportation back and forth to work I have not been reading as much. When I'm at home I am usually organizing, unpacking, running, cooking, cleaning or going to bed. By the time I sit down in bed I fall right asleep. I have a pile of books by my bed and I'm dying to finish them by the end of this summer.

The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin - I got this as a gift before I moved and in the card it said, " this book is for the beginning of your own happiness project". Yep, so cute!

Men May Come and Men May Go But I've Still Got My Little Pink Raincoat: Life and Love in and Out of My Wardrobe by Gigi Anders - Just the title alone is so cute!

Tranquilista, mastering the art of enlighted work and mindful play by Kimberly Wilson - I went to Kimberly's book signing a few months ago and have been dying to open this book up. I am sure you have seen from past posts that I absolutely adore her! Her thoughts on yoga, life, finding what you love to do, I heart her.

Belle in the Big Apple by Brooke Parkhurst - She writes about her life moving from the South to the Big City and food and writing. A little Carrie Bradshaw and food writing! But I must read it now! Ok, I think I had this on my reading list last year. It is such a cute book and her new blog about cooking, writing and her hubby and baby are so cute!

CHANEL: A Woman of her own by Axel Madsen - This has been on my reading list for months! I received in the mail as a gift the other day and was so excited! Chanel lived such an amazing life and I am glad to finally start reading it.....if I can keep my eyes open when I crawl into bed;)

I want CANDY

Did you know that June is..... National CANDY month!
Everything sweets related makes me happy and smile inside.

{I have always loved this cotton candy from Martha Stewart Weddings.
I want to serve this at a party.}
{A candy button table/desk. So fun.}
{It has been raining a lot in the afternoons here in Florida.
A candy coated umbrella might be essential.}

{Gummi Lobsters from the Candy Warehouse. Oh you can find everything on that website! Lobster candy for summertime sounds perfect. }

{When I was little my sisters and I use to get rock candy and peas & carrot candy in Maine. These candies remind me of my childhood. They are quite fun now that I have found them again.}
{I love this Neapolitan inspired stationary. Just like the yummy pretty Neapolitan candies of layered Strawberry, Chocolate and Vanilla Coconut, the stationary is just as sweet.}
{ A Gummi Bear lamp could be perfect on my desk!}
{I have been stalking this Kate Spade Salt Water Taffy shirt. I mean really unnecessary and so lovely!}

{Beautiful French chocolates with beautiful wrappers.}

{Cute labels on simple pink candy.}

Live a Sweet Life! Go out and buy something to satisfy your sweet tooth. Happy Sweet Month!

taking a break

Since we have been back from China my days have consisted of running, laying in the sun, cleaning, cooking, unpacking, unpacking, unpacking and more. I haven't really dressed up much and gone out much, but that's OK. I have realized that sometimes it is OK for a little break. The one big break I have taken is a break from my long daily beauty routine.

It is a good thing to take a break from makeup, hair dryers, hair products for awhile. I feel that my skin is clean and in great shape and my hair is softer after two weeks of washing it a few times and not abusing it. With hot summer days here it is a good time to take a break on the weekends. Let your face breathe, let your hair go!

Products I'm loving:

Yes to Cucumbers Face Towelettes - They take the dirt and grease away in one swipe.

Bobbi Brown Soothing Face Toner - So I got talked into this at the makeup counter, but I have to say, I LOVE IT! I wipe it on before I go to bed and its so refreshing. Lavender and cucumber scents feel so cool in this heat.

Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Balm - It gives you a hint of color and has a little SPF in it. Perfect for sunny days.

Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask - You can find it at CVS, Target, Walgreens, its nothing fancy but it works! I like to put it on and leave it on throughout the day if I have nothing to do. Five minutes in the shower will also make your hair feel shinier and new!

Here is to happy pretty hair and smiles all Summer long! xoxo~Becca
