Asus Eee Reader DR900 unboxed

Asus Eee Reader DR900 unboxed
Yes, another day, another Asus reader gets prime time. Now it’s DR900′s turn, which got unboxed by the people over at eeepc.it and we grabbed it for you (but don’t worry, they shot the video in English). Well, as all unboxings, don’t expect to be completely torn apart, as the song says. First of all, the sleeve of the DR900 is made of plastic, not leather (or something similar), like the one of Asus’s other reader, EA800. Or like, of course, the iPad of e-readers, Kindle.

Well, moving on, there’s a users manual and some papers you’ll forget about, a power adapted and a USB cable. Looks wise, the reader is really nice and keeps the slick line of the EA800. The DR900 has some function buttons under the screen and page up and down buttons on the right side. Although promoted since last week in Italy, it is available only since yesterday and will cost you 299 euros.

In case you don’t know if you really want it, here are some more details about it. It has a 9 inch e-paper screen with a 1024×768 resolution, is 10 mm “thick” and it weights only 600 grams. The battery is not measured in hours, but in page turns (as the device uses power only to change pages, but not maintain them) and is said to hold for 10.000 turns.

There are two storage schemes, one with 2 and another with 4 GB, but you can expand it via a micro SD slot. There’s WiFi and 3G, but you won’t spend that much time browsing (I guess), as the e-paper comes with some long refresh times while using the browser. Finally, one of the most impressive features of the device is that it can convert e-books into audio books using a voice synthesizer.
