5 Most Awaited Smartphones of 2011

2010 will be remembered as the year when Android got serious and when smartphones got off their pedestal and became more approachable to the regular consumer. Here we list the five smartphones that look like they might define and shape the market in 2011.

LG Star

It looks like 2011 will be the year when smartphone specs will break many barriers. The rumored LG Star (aka Optimus 2X) is one such smartphone with a rumored 1GHz dual core processor (either Nvidia’s Tegra 2 or the ARM Cortex A9) and a 4-inch capacitive display with a resolution of 480x800 and color output of 16M colors. While leaked info claims that the Optimus 2X will be launching with Android 2.2 (Froyo), we won’t be surprised if it actually shows up with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Another thing that excites us about the 2X is its 8MP autofocus camera. Since LG phones have always impressed with their multimedia capabilities, it’s not hard to predict that the Optimus 2X’s camera will be very good. The LG is also supposed to have an HDMI port to output 720p videos and will most certainly support playback of XviD/DivX videos.

When it’s expected: While most sources say that it should be revealed by LG in January, a safer bet would be the first quarter of 2011.

Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone

This could just be the biggest game-changer of them all. While the iPhone has certainly given a huge impetus to quality mobile gaming, the rumored PlayStation phone from Sony Ericsson could be the device that completely erases the line between phones and handheld gaming devices. While rumors started coming out in August about the PlayStation phone, further information has trickled through gradually. However, whatever we have learnt so far is quite enough to make us seriously excited about this phone. Things like actual dedicated hardware gaming controls and 3.7-inch display to watch the action on sound great on paper. Add to that a 1GHz processor, Android 2.3 OS and a 5MP camera make the PlayStation phone look like a one stop device for all your mobile entertainment needs.

When it’s expected: Since the phone already seemed to be a tangible one back in August, we expect it to be revealed in the first quarter and most probably at February’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Nokia E7

The Nokia E7 was announced back in September and for once we have plenty of information on it. If you are Symbian fan and want an alternative to the Nokia N8 with a focus on productivity over multimedia, then you should look forward to the E7. That doesn’t mean that the E7 skimps on multimedia features, in fact its specs sheet would put plenty of smartphones to shame. Specs such as a 4-inch AMOLED display, an 8MP camera (which is unfortunately fixed-focus like the C7) and HDMI out look really good. Add to that a huge four-row slide-out keyboard and Nokia’s traditionally excellent design and build quality and you have a contender in the E7 for one of the better smartphones to come out in 2011.

When it’s expected: Taking into consideration the time Nokia usually takes to launch a product after announcing it; the E7 should make its way into stores in January.

Apple iPhone 5

Apple has said absolutely nothing about the iPhone 5 but it’s virtually assured that there will be a new iPhone in 2011. Of course, that hasn’t stopped rumors and leaks from surfacing and it looks like Apple will be making certain changes to the iPhone 4 but nothing drastically game changing. Leaked images of what is purported to be the iPhone 5 show a curved back like on the iPhones before the iPhone 4, with a metal bezel extending to the front. Also, the menu button will now be a touch sensitive one rather than the round physical button the iPhone sports now. Other improvements that the iPhone 5 is supposed to have include- a faster 1.2 GHz processor, more memory and a larger 3.7-inch display. Why are we excited? It’s a goddamned new iPhone; I think it’s pretty much mandatory for tech journalists to get excited.

When it’s expected: Rumors put the launch date anywhere from January to December. We are more inclined to believe that the Apple iPhone 5 will show up in the second quarter during the summer months.

Samsung Galaxy S 2

The best Android smartphone in the market today will get a successor in 2011, if rumors are to be believed. The Samsung Galaxy S 2 is supposed to have a 2GHz dual-core processor and a Near Field Communications (NFC) chip that will make it possible to use your phone as a credit card. The Galaxy S 2 will probably run on Android 2.3 and will have a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED 2 display, 1GB of RAM, 4GB ROM, 32GB of internal support along with support for microSD cards up to 32GB, an 8MP camera that can record 720p videos and Bluetooth 3.0 support. By all accounts, the Galaxy S 2 looks like it will give netbooks a run for their money and we like that.

When it’s expected: Samsung is expected to reveal the Galaxy S 2 at the Mobile World Congress in February.

iPad 2 to have new speakers and a flat back

iPad 2 to have new speakers and a flat back
More rumors about the second generation of iPad flood the internet again. Earlier this month, there were rumors about iPad 2 having two cameras. Now, we have a few new rumors, coming straight from Japan, from the blog MacOtakara. The blog says that the rumors may not be true, but they surely are interesting.

The blog says that the frame or the case of the iPad will shave off 3mm to make it smaller. But the display will be of the same size. The overall dimension of the iPad will be reduced from 242.8mm to 239mm (height) and 189.7mm to 186mm (width). This will surely make a change, will feel kind of small. And another big thing is the rear part of the tablet. We have a bulge at the rear now. The new model is rumored to be flat at the rear. This will be really good.

Now, if the tablet is placed on a table and you try to use it, it wobbles each time you tab on the display. This is completely irritating. Probably, if this particular rumor is true, it will be very good if you are at your study/work table and work on the tablet with one hand and drink coffee with the other. No more wobbling.

The next, and which also would be a very welcome change is of new speakers on the iPad. There is an image showing this off, which is a rendering by Taiyo Fujii for MacOtakara. I’ve added the picture below. This looks good now as the casing is also changed. Also, the speakers are said to me more loud and bigger than the previous model’s. We have to see the performance now.

We also saw in the previous rumor that the next version of the iPad will also have two cameras, one at the back and one at the front. The back camera may be the same camera which is on iPhone 4. The front facing camera, which can be used for video calling and taking self portraits, would probably with a VGA or a 1.3MP camera.

As these still remain rumors, there is another rumor that the second generation iPad is already in the production line and the shipping will start from next month. So Apple can surprise us in any way. Lets hope if not all, most of the rumors get true.

Dell Inspiron iM501R Laptop Review

Dell Inspiron iM501R Laptop
The Dell Inspiron iM501R laptop is one of the coolest laptops of the month. The configuration is good, and gives good performance as well. The price is proper, something like value for money. The configuration of the laptop is as follows.

Processor : AMD Phenom II Quad-Core Mobile processor
Memory : 4GB3 1,333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
Chipset : AMD M880G Chipset
Graphics Standard : ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
Operating System : Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
Display : 15.6" Widescreen HD glossy WLED display with TrueLife Panel (1,366x768)
Hard Disk : 500GB3, 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Speakers : SRS Premium Sound - 2 speakers @ 2W
Optical Drives : Internal 12.7" Tray-Load DVD+/-RW
Power : 2.2AHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Battery
Price at the time of review : $819.99

The laptop runs on an AMD processor. I’ve been using an AMD laptop for like two years now, and an Intel desktop PC for almost the same time. Both are comparable when it comes to the processors they have, but I get a lot better performance from the laptop, which runs on an AMD chip. No offense Intel, but I’ve lot interest in you. The PC tends to become sluggish after a time.

But there are drawbacks with AMD as well, first is the well known heating issue. The laptop gets heated up in no time, its true. I use a cooling pad under my laptop for the reason. But the performance you get is of no match. Anyway, the processor in this case is a Phenom II quad-core processor, which is a lot similar to Intel’s i5. Not at all a bad choice.

Coming to the memory, it has 4GB DDR3 installed, no issues here as well. Its a lot for anything you can possibly do. Also, the frequency of the memory is 1,333 MHz. With this comes the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 dedicated graphics card of up to 1GB. Seriously, if you are not a hard core gamer, this is some serious configuration for the price you are going to pay.

Its got a 500GB hard disk in it, so you can get all the stuff you need inside your laptop. If you are a movies or music buff, like me, then you can enjoy it with the beautiful 15.6” HD widescreen TrueLife display and the built in stereo speakers which produce 2W each and have premium SRS sound. Sweet, isn’t it?

With this being the main area of interest, you have all the other usual ports and stuffs. You even have a 7-in-1 card reader. But one disappointing this is that the laptop has only one line out jack, that is the head phone jack. Most laptops started shipping with two of these and one mic in ports like years back. I dont know why this has only one line out port.

There are all the kinds of wireless connectivity options that are standard. You can have different color options and a bit change in the config as well, it depends on your needs. If you are satisfied with this, you can buy Dell Inspiron iM501R laptop now for $819.99 from The Tech Check Store. Other options of similar laptops are also given below.

Nokia BH-218 Review

Nokia BH-218
Nokia Corporation, is a Finnish based multinational communications corporation. The company is involved in manufacturing the mobile devices and also in converging the internet and the communications industries. It is also the largest manufacturer of the mobile phones in the entire world. The company also manufactures Bluetooth headsets and other accessories. The release of the company’s N8 handset has hid all the other devices that are being let out by Nokia in the market. The BH-218 is one of the latest headsets released by Nokia. It has almost all of the necessary features. It carries the same features as the previous headset from Nokia, the BH-217.

Specifications

* Dimensions: 54 x 19 x 13.8 mm
* Weight: 13.8 grams
* Connectors: 2 mm charger connector interface
* Operating Range: 10 m (Bluetooth)
* Power supply: 70 mAh rechargeable lithium ion polymer battery
* Talk time: 8 hours (Bluetooth)
* Stand by time: 3 months when the earpiece is in the clip; 150 hours when it is not in the clip
* Charging time: 2 hours
* Features: DSP noise reduction, automatic volume adjustment, voice prompts
* Connectivity: Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR
* Package contents: BH-218 Bluetooth headset, Nokia charger AC-3, earplugs (S and L), user guide
* Price: $50

Design

The BH-218 headset has an unconventional design with a separate clip in order to make it have a clip on type of design. The headset possesses a single ear bud that is attached with a cable. Though the design is unusual, it is highly convenient and comfortable to use in most of the cases. The headset turns on and off automatically whenever the ear piece is taken away from the clip. This will definitely boost the battery life to a large extent. The design of the BH-218 is alone different from that of the BH-217. All the other features are the same. The clip of the headset is slim and minimalistic with an answer or end key alone. The company logo is also found on the clip. The cable that connects the ear bud is a controversial design element of the headset as it is found to dangle from the clip and it has to be hid to obtain a better fit after a call is over. There is a tiny plastic part with the mute switch and the microphone on the cable. The volume rocker would be a terrible lack in the beginning but it goes off after getting aware about the automatic volume adjustment. The ear bud offers a nice and comfortable fit just as the regular ear buds.

Features

The BH-218 headset is a always ready for use. It can be quickly turned on by picking up the ear piece. It automatically gets connects as soon as the ear piece is taken out of the clip. It has a stand by time of up to 3 months, provided the ear piece is stored on the clip itself. The users can benefit more from the headset as it produces excellent call quality with the built in DSP noise reduction feature. The microphone is also in built in the cable for the high voice quality. The headset has the Advanced Multipoint feature which allows the users to connect it to a maximum of two devices simultaneously. It is also equipped with the Adaptive volume adjustment which compensates for the lack of the volume rocker. The voice prompts are also present in the headset to provide guidance during the Bluetooth pairing process and in the indication of the battery and connection status.

Performance

The headset can be simply powered on by taking the ear bud off the clip. The headset flashes blue when it is ready for the pairing process. There are absolutely no issues in connecting the headset with an iPhone or with a Nokia handset. The multipoint feature is surely a benefit for the users who tend to use different handsets. The headset detects the handset that receives a call at first. The voice prompts that indicates the status of the battery and the connection is also quite useful. The headset supports the headset profile and the hands-free profile. The volume adjustment takes place quickly as well as accurately. The headset is highly good in performance when used in noisy environments. The call quality is clear and the callers can hear us clearly despite of the noise. The callers sound natural and cleat and they can hear us loud enough. The headset has a talk time of 8 hours and a charging time of 2 hours. The headset has a battery life that is quite on par with that claimed by the company.

Conclusion

The BH-218 is an inexpensive headset costing nearly around $50 when compared with the headset series of Nokia. It has some unconventional design aspects and it is quite easy to handle once the user is capable of managing the dangling cable. The headset offers excellent call quality and a comfortable fit. These two aspects are the main features that are expected out of a Bluetooth headset. Pros – excellent call quality and unconventional design. Cons – dangling cable and quiet sound output.

A Happy New Year in Holland

Beau and I are in Holland visiting his family for the week. The picture below is of the beachhouse where beau's parents are and we are staying right next door. How cute is it, right?

Today we are off to Amsterdam to visit his friends from college and do a little exploring. I must arrive home with some little Dutch clogs for our backyard to plant flowers in.

Gelukkig Nieuw Jaar {happy new year in Dutch}! See you in 2011!

How funny, I did spellcheck on this post and everything came up highlighted, even the spellcheck in Dutch!

LG Apex review

LG Apex review
LG Apex is a new phone from LG which runs on Android 2.1, surprisingly. Anyway, the specs of the phone are as listed below. We will talk about the phone after you are clear with the specs.

Dimension: 56.4 x 116 x 16 millimetresLG Apex

Weight: 153 grams (battery included)

System: Google Android 2.1, 600 MHz, Qualcomm MSM7627

Memory: 512 MiB (accessible: 102 MiB)

Display: Touch screen, Color transflective TFT , 262144 scales, 3.2 inch, 240×400 pixels resolution

Network: CDMA800, CDMA1900, CDMAOne, CDMA2000 1xRTT, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rel. 0, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev A

Hardware: Slide-out QWERTY-type keyboard, microSD, microSDHC, TransFlash

Connectivity: USB 2.0 client, 480Mbit/s, micro-USB, Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11b, 802.11g

GPS: Built in GPS, Assisted GPS, QuickGPS, Geotagging

Camera: 3.1 MP

Well, what do you think? An Android 2.1 phone when there is Android 2.3 in the market? Well, even I thought the same. But we cant help it, the phone is made that way, maybe there will be an option to upgrade your OS. Its got a 600MHz Qualcomm processor, which is enough for a normal user. And this is a mid-range phone, there is not much high-end activity you can do.

The on-board storage available to the user is a little over 100 MB, which doesn’t really matter because will obviously be getting a microSD card and storing all your data on it. The screen is 3.2” big, perfect size, and since there is a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard, messaging is a brief on this phone.

But the one this I dont like is this is not a GSM phone, its a CDMA. So CDMA lovers have a pretty good here. The phone supports EV-DO, which is something like the 3G in GSM. So you will be able to use high speed internet on the device. There are other standard connectivity options like a microUSB port, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi and others.

The GPS will help you find any location you want on a map. And you can get directions easily. There is a 3.1MP camera, along with it comes the GeoTagging feature. So you dont have to manually specify where you took the pic.

Now, the pros are that it has a mid-range price tag, a good keyboard, great connectivity options and its Android. The cons are that the phone is really sluggish!! But the battery drains quickly.

Lenovo IdeaCentre B300 and B305 - monoblocks for games and entertainment

Full Review

The Lenovo IdeaCentre B300 is a 20-inch all-in-one desktop PC targeted at a budget-conscious customer looking to replace their old, aging desktop PC. Equipped with a 3.03-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics, the IdeaCentre B300 makes a strong case for a basic home desktop.

Design
The Lenovo IdeaCentre B300 is part of Lenovo’s B series of home all-in-one desktops, and it bears a strong resemblance to its older 23-inch cousin, the Lenovo IdeaCentre B500. The Lenovo IdeaCentre B300 has a large photo-frame design that’s slim and its encased in solid, glossy black plastic all around. Unlike the ThinkCentre A70z’s steel stand, the IdeaCentre B300 has a tough plastic stand which allows the B300 desktop PC to tilt backwards.

The Lenovo IdeaCentre B300 all-in-one desktop PC has a pronounced screen bezel all around. Below the screen are placed the desktop’s twin onboard speakers and a row of buttons to adjust the IdeaCentre B300 screen’s brightness or to switch it off. Optical drive is situated on the desktop’s right edge and some connectivity ports are placed on the B300’s left edge. Heat vents are situated near the top of the screen’s back panel. A very well designed all-in-one desktop PC, the Lenovo IdeaCentre B300, and well built as well.

Usability
The centrepiece of the Lenovo IdeaCentre B300 is its 20-inch widescreen display. It supports a resolution of 1600x900 pixels and is matte in nature. The screen is very well lit, nice and bright, and has good viewing angles. Watching movies isn’t as great compared to the glossy displays of the Dell Studio One 19 and MSI Wind Top AE2220 desktops, but still pretty good. However, the Lenovo IdeaCentre B300’s screen doesn’t support touch input.

The IdeaCentre B300’s accompanying keyboard and mouse are one of the best we’ve come across in all our time spent reviewing all-in-one desktop PCs. The keyboard, especially, has raised, closely packed keys that are effortless to type on -- it’s by far the best typing experience on a keyboard we’ve come across. The keyboard has a dedicated button (top right) to launch LVT or Lenovo Vantage Technologies. The included USB-connected mouse fits the palm nicely and nice to use.

Hardware Specs and Features
The Lenovo IdeaCentre B300 all-in-one desktop PC has very good hardware building blocks for a basic home desktop PC. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo E7600 3.03-GHz processor, 4GB RAM, 640GB hard drive, and discrete ATI Radeon HD 5450 gaphics. The graphics card isn’t really for gaming, but every other day-to-day home application will be handled well by the IdeaCentre B300’s hardware. However, upgrading the desktop’s hard drive or RAM isn’t an option at all -- the casing can’t be opened.

For connectivity options, the Lenovo IdeaCentre B300 has six USB ports, FireWire, Gigabit Ethernet, multicard reader, headphone and microphone jacks. It has a tray-loading DVD writer on its right edge and PS/2 keyboard port at the back. But the desktop doesn’t come with a serial connector or HDMI or eSATA ports. Wireless connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR support.

Much like the IdeaCentre B500, Lenovo also bundles in its proprietay Lenovo Vantage Technologies suite for system maintenance, update, and rescue and recovery tools (OneKey recovery) on the IdeaCentre B300 desktop. This not only helps keep your IdeaCentre B300 updated with the latest hardware and software drivers but also makes managing it a lot easier.

Performance
The Lenovo IdeaCentre B300 performs well for a basic home all-in-one desktop PC. Its WorldBench score of 100 is very good -- working with day-to-day programs and apps for a home environment won’t be a problem at all. Even watching both 720p and 1080p HD videos on the desktop’s matte screen was a good experience -- not the best but pretty good. The IdeaCentre B300’s accompanying onboard audio was one of the better ones we heard -- not as loud as the onboard speakers on the IdeaCentre B500 but nice and clear.

Gaming at the desktop’s native screen resolution (1600x900) on the ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics card isn’t a great experience. Basically, if you expect to game on the IdeaCentre B300 desktop PC, you’re looking at the wrong option. This is a very good home entertainment and multimedia all-in-one desktop PC, not a gaming rig.
Bottom Line

The Lenovo IdeaCentre B300 all-in-one desktop PC sells for a price of Rs. 38,200. For that price, you get a very good basic all-in-one home desktop with slim design and decent value for money. It doesn't have every connectivity option under the sun, but has a nice matte screen, offers very good performance, and performs well as a multimedia home entertainment PC.

The Lenovo IdeaCentre B500 is obviously better than the IdeaCentre B300, and you should consider it if you’re willing to stretch your budget. If you desire a touchscreen-enabled all-in-one desktop PC for your home, check out the MSI Wind Top AE2220. But for 38,000, you won’t go wrong with the Lenovo IdeaCentre B300.

Epson ups the ante with PowerLite Pro G-series installation projectors

Epson ups the ante with PowerLite Pro G-series installation projectors
Epson is a name that is well know when it comes to projectors (apart from printers, of course), and this time around we have a couple more high-definition models that will be introduced to the masses – the PowerLite Pro G-series installation projector line which sees the PowerLite Pro G5450WUNL and G5750WUNL arriving on stage. Targeting medium to large custom installations in corporations, higher-education, and houses of worship, these will be no less than full-featured, professional projectors that comprise of a wide range of cutting edge technologies and collaboration features. In case you’re involved in any of the places mentioned and are looking for a new projector, why not read on in the extended post to see whether the features suit your venue or not?

The PowerLite Pro G5450WUNL and G5750WUNL are both WUXGA projectors, where they will deliver 1920 x 1200 native resolution and high-quality widescreen images. First of all, the PowerLite Pro G5450WUNL can deliver 4,000 lumens of color and white light output, while the PowerLite Pro G5750WUNL is slightly higher end when it comes to brightness levels, offering 4,500 lumens of color and white light output. Among the features that both projectors share include :-

* C2Fine Technology: Along with advanced vertical alignment technology, provides high contrast for deeper blacks and vivid images
* DICOM Simulation Mode: Specialized imaging uses standardized grayscale to reproduce medical images, such as x-rays, for medical training and education
* Six-Axis Color Adjustment: Allows users to customize colors by adjusting the hue, saturation, and brightness of RGBCMY (red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow) for special projection materials such as high-quality photographs or artwork
* Advanced Sharpness: Allows users to adjust sharpness more precisely for thin, thick, vertical, and horizontal line enhancements
* Test Patterns: Four new test patterns are included for different applications to make setup and image customization easy

Of course, what’s a high end projector when it isn’t capable of giving you split screen capability? This will certainly come in handy when it comes to presentation flexibility, boasting two side-by-side windows and three layout options – perfect when you want video and presentation materials to run simultaneously for added convenience. Not only that, up to a quartet of computers can simultaneously project via the network with a four-way split-screen for added effect. The PowerLite Pro G5450WUNL isn’t cheap at $3,999, while the Pro G5750WUNL will see you adding another grand to the price tag as they both become available next January onwards.

Coloud Colors headphones are ready to rock

Most of us would be happy with a standard pair of headphones, but then again an out-of-the-box standard issue pair might not be up to par with what discerning ears are willing to settle for. Nice to know that there are after market headphones out there which are capable of filling in the gap, and the Coloud Colors headphones are more than willing to step in and do the job. Of course, this has nothing to do with Care Bears (anyone remembers that cute little cartoon with plenty of love going around?) despite boasting series of 7 uniformly colored headphones, but rather, it is a tribute to the rainbow of sorts, but you shouldn’t expect traditional rainbow colors as it comes in red, white, black, green, blue, purple and pink.

All Coloud Colors headphones will also ship with a microphone cum remote that will play nice with a range of smartphones including the almighty iPhone, HTC devices as well as BlackBerrys among other handsets that rely on a 3.5mm standard plug. Of course, while this is nothing near Harman Kardon levels of audio quality nor will it bring your listening experience to a totally elevated level, at least it should sound better than what you get with your handset purchase, which probably costs a couple of bucks to manufacture anyways. The Coloud Colors headphones won’t put a dent in your pocket either with a suggested retail price of $35.

Also known as the C22M model, it allows you answer incoming calls thanks to the aforementioned microphone/remote function, pausing whatever music that is being played at that moment. Just like Apple’s iPhone which was designed in California but manufactured in China, so the Coloud headphones are developed in Sweden and produced in China. Hopefully there won’t be any sort of performance related issues due to the country of manufacturing, and we hope that stringent quality controls are in place to boot.

Optoma GT100 Mini Projector

Optoma GT100 Mini Projector
Mini projectors haven’t really caught on ever since they were introduced to the masses some time ago, and we’re guessing that’s because there really isn’t a deep rooted need for one of these puppies. Well, that doesn’t mean manufacturers will stop churning out such devices, otherwise we wouldn’t have the £229.99 Optoma GT100 Mini Projector to play around with. Capable of throwing an image of up to 75-inches in size, the Optoma GT100 will play nice with just about any video game console, set top box, DVD players, notebooks as well as other compatible devices onto any flat surface.

The brightness level needs some looking into though at just 50 lumens, which means your room will need to be pretty dark – otherwise your audience will be treated to washed otu colors. Apart from that, external speakers are a must if you’re watching a movie on this thing since the integrated 1.5w speaker isn’t going to add much ambience to the whole situation. Maxing out at WVGA resolution (854 x 480), you can forget about watching High Definition videos on this thing, although regular DVDs will do just fine. The lamp life of 30,000 hours ought to last you for quite a number of years, as we don’t forsee this being used regularly. Reasonable enough to be placed under the Christmas tree though.

ZINK stands for Zero Ink - an amazing new way to print in full color without the need for ink cartridges or ribbons. The ZINK Technology encompasses both the ZINK Paper and the intelligence embedded in every ZINK-enabled device. The technology enables a new category of color printing devices and paper that work as a system to print in a whole new way.

At the heart of the ZINK Technology is the Patented ZINK Paper, an advanced composite material with cyan, yellow, and magenta dye crystals embedded inside, and a protective polymer overcoat layer outside. The crystals are colorless before printing, so ZINK Paper looks like regular White photo paper. Heat from a ZINK-enabled device activates the crystals, forming all the colors of the rainbow. The printing process is now radically simple. Just add ZINK Paper.

ZINK is a revolutionary approach to full color printing that is mobile, embeddable in any device, simple to use, easy to maintain and has dramatically less waste. ZINK provides the perfect Bridge between your digital content and the real world.

HP’s New Printers Will Print From iOS Even Without AirPrint

HP’s New Printers Will Print From iOS Even Without AirPrint
Starting in November when iOS 4.2 drops, we’ll finally be able to print directly from the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad through AirPrint. At the beginning, AirPrint will mostly only work with printers shared on your network, but eventually, AirPrint-certified printers will appear that can sense nearby iOS devices out-of-the-book.

In the meantime, though, we’re going to have to settle for some printers kludging iOS printing… namely by assigning each printer an e-mail address to which documents can be sent for printing through your iPhone or iPad’s built-in Mail.app.

HP’s just announced three such printers: the HP Envy e-All-In-One, which will cost $249 and do the whole smorgasbord of home printing duties including printing, copying and scanning; the HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A Plus, an all-in-one office inkjet with wireless connectivity; and the HP PhotoSmart eStation, which costs $499 and is capable of printing photos of up to 9600×2400 dpi, and comes with an optional (blargh) Android tablet.

They’re all attractive printers, and they are all technically “AirPrint-compatible” in that when AirPrint rolls down the software update pipeline, they’ll at least be shareable from your Mac. If you want a truly AirPrint compatible printer, though, best wait for a spell longer.

Canon's new PIXMA printers feature Full HD Movie Print function

Canon's new PIXMA printers feature Full HD Movie Print function
Canon has recently announced the addition of two new PIXMA multifunction printers, the PIXMA MG8120 and PIXMA MG6120. Both feature intelligent touch technology and a Full HD Movie Print function which allows users to capture individual frames of recorded HD movies taken with compatible HD Canon EOS and PowerShot Digital cameras.
The Intelligent Touch System

The Canon PIXMA MG8120 and MG6120 Wireless Photo AIO printers include a new intelligent touch system that features back-lit touch sensitive buttons and a light guidance system which only illuminates the buttons you need to use to assist users when navigating through menus. Unlike other products that use pressure on the touch surface, the PIXMA models use touch technology that senses the electricity in the user’s body as they glide their finger across the touch surface, so gloved operation might be a problem.
Full HD Movie Print

If you’ve ever had trouble capturing frames from a movie then you might be interested in the Full HD Movie Print function of these printers. When using HD Canon EOS and PowerShot Digital cameras, users can also print individual frames of movies – so that special moment that nobody managed to catch on a still camera can still be enjoyed as an individual image. Noise reduction can also be applied to the image to smooth out lines that would otherwise appear jaggy.
Other Features

Both printers will also include the upgraded versions of Auto Photo Fix II – to help correct common photo errors, Easy-PhotoPrint EX – allowing users to search for and use images from Flickr, and Easy-WebPrint EX – featuring a new fit-to-page button for printing text and images from websites. The printers are also 802.11n Wi-Fi certified which should allow for a faster network transfer rate.
PIXMA MG8120 Wireless Photo AIO Printer

This printer has six individual ink tanks, including gray, which allows users to produce high-quality color and black and white images. There is a built-in film adapter unit that can convert older slides and negatives to digital, Auto Duplex copying, printing and a two-way paper feed and the speed of producing a borderless 4”x 6” photo (10 x 15cm) is approximately 20 seconds. The MG8120 has an estimated selling price of US$299.99.
PIXMA MG6120 Wireless Photo AIO Printer

The MG6120 Wireless Photo AIO printer also features a gray ink tank and can produce a maximum color resolution of 9600 x 2400 dpi. Like the 8120, it features a 3-inch LCD screen and is also capable of producing a borderless 4" x 6" photo in approximately 20 seconds. The MG6120 has an estimated selling price of US$199.99.

The State Department gets a Stylish Christmas!

I am a huge fan of David Stark. His creative work on events is absolutely amazing! I was quite surprised to see that the State Department dressed up quite stylish for the holidays and hired Mr. Stark, but I was not at all surprised to see how beautiful and chic he made it for Christmas! Enjoy the photos. See the rest at the WashingtonPost.Com.

Can I get the red and white striped carpet at our house? How about the gift box arch! LOVE!

Make the Most of Life Anywhere with Toshiba Folio 100

Make the Most of Life Anywhere with Toshiba Folio 100
With the introduction of FOLIO 100, Toshiba has made its way on the Android tablet market. Bearing an outward resemblance to Apple’s iPad, the most popular tablet device on the market today, the Folio weight 760 grams and its battery lasts seven hours when being used. Aside from the plethora of Android applications installed in FOLIO 100, it also features Opera Mobile Web browser, FBReader e-book reader software, Documents To Go productivity suite, and Fring for Video Chat. Other remarkable features of this tablet are Evernote for taking notes and Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for running Flash apps.

The FOLIO 100 is also comfortable to hold and is very easy to use especially for basic tasks. It is equipped with Android 2.2, also known as Froyo. One thing that sets this tablet apart from mobile phones is the home button positioned in the gadget’s upper left screen. This feature provides the user with a full list of applications. You sure will love its 10.1-inch 4-finger multi-touch widescreen display matched with an 8GB solid-state drive and a keyboard. It derives its amazing performance from its NVIDIA TEgra 250 Mobile Processor.

If you want to have seamless experience across entertainment, mobile internet and social networking, the FOLIO 100 will help take the most of your life anywhere! It also has an instant-on 1.3M webcam which lets you share great moments with your loved ones in real time. If you’re interested in the said device, check out the list of Toshiba tablets at Amazon.
