Sony VAIO VPCS131FM/S Review

Sony has refreshed Best Buy’s exclusive Blue Label VAIO S 13.3-inch laptop line, adding the new VAIO VPCS131FM/S model.

The Sony VAIO VPCS131FM/S has a faster processor and more storage capacity than its VPCS111FM/S precursor, as well as WiMAX capability and a longer battery life. The new model includes the Intel Core i5-460M CPU at 2.53GHz, a 640GB hard drive and a claimed battery life of “up to 5 hours and 30 minutes”, whereas the old VAIO S has the 2.26GHz i5-430M, a 500GB HDD and 5-hour run time. Both laptops feature the Intel GMA HD integrated graphics, Intel Wireless Display technology that wirelessly transmits video from the laptop to a TV, 4GB RAM, a DVD burner, 1366 x 768 LED-backlight screen, Windows 7 Home Premium OS, and a silver chassis.

The 4.4-pound heavy and 1.2-inch thick Blue Label VAIOs also have a built-in web camera, backlight keyboard, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Gigabit LAN, HDMI output, three USB ports, a Firewire connector, and Memory Stick PRO/Memory Stick PRO Duo and Secure Digital media card readers.

Although the Sony VAIO VPCS131FM/S has better features, it is priced at $899.99, while the VPCS111FM/S costs $999.99. The prices include the Netgear Push2TV adapter, which is required for Wireless Display functionality, and a free copy of Trend Micro Titanium Antivirus.
